Chocolate milk, raspberries and Greek yogurt make this protein-packed Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie the perfect post-workout recovery drink or dairy-filled breakfast for all you chocolate lovers out there!
As an avid runner, I’ve found chocolate milk to be the perfect way to refuel after a long and/or hard run — plus you feel like you’re having a real treat because it’s chocolate! Chocolate milk has been handed out at many races I’ve participated in as an alternative to other recovery drinks. I’d take a bottle of chocolate milk over those fruity drinks any day!
Research has shown that the carb-to-protein ratio in chocolate milk is effective in promoting muscle recovery after an endurance workout. Plus, it’s a good source of potassium, has a moderate amount of sodium, and every 8 ounce glass has 8 grams of protein.
On top of the chocolate milk, I also added some delicious Greek yogurt to this smoothie to add extra protein and to help thicken it up. There are plenty of raspberries mixed in there too — one cup to be exact, and unsweetened cocoa powder for more chocolate flavor. And, I used a little honey to sweeten it up! It seriously tastes like you’re having dessert, but you won’t find any guilt in this nutrient and protein packed smoothie.
