Karen Bakies is a registered and licensed dietitian with the American Dairy Association Mideast, the local affiliate for the National Dairy Council. As the Nutrition Affairs Manager she oversees medical outreach programs and acts as a resource for health professionals, consumer leaders, media and the dairy industry. Karen has more than 12 years of experience in front of the camera and with reporters. She has completed numerous print, TV and radio interviews on topics such as weight management, child and adolescent nutrition, school nutrition and nutrition for disease prevention.
Karen is the former president and delegate of the Ohio Dietetic Association and is currently the chairperson for Nutrition Education for the Public practice group. She has been acknowledged by the Ohio Dietetic Association with the "Member Merit Award" and the "Presidents Award." Karen is also involved in Ohio Action for Healthy Kids, a group focused on addressing childhood obesity in Ohio.
Karen graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and completed a post-graduate internship at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has experience in the areas of clinical practice, community nutrition, nutrition education and academia.
As a mother of three, Karen understands the challenges of providing healthy meals for the family. She knows balancing busy schedules and healthy eating is not easy and she can offer many meal solutions for on-the-go families.
In her spare time, Karen enjoys running, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
